Flyers Backchecking Party Story

Oh, the power of Puck Daddy.

The Philadelphia Flyers are backtracking from the Center City Entourage story that hit the front page of Puck Daddy Monday evening, and has been making the rounds since.

Flyers Coach John Stevens, speaking with Ed Moran in today’s Philadelphia Daily News:

“Guys have to cook for themselves and make sure they eat properly and get the proper amount of rest. We just have a big group of young players.

We don’t have a problem with partying on nights before games. It’s not as if we had a problem with guys coming in hungover or any of those issues. No, not at all.

“But as a coach, you are always on guys, talking to guys. Even with the older guys I am always on them to do extra, to become more fit, to pay attention to nutrition.”

Wait, what? Lemme go back and dig out that Holmgren quote from the interview with Wayne Fish on Sunday.

Holmgren: “First of all, if you want to look for nightlife, action or whatever, you can find it whether you live in South Jersey, Delaware or Philadelphia. Am I concerned about it? Let me say this: The issue has been raised by (coach) John (Stevens) and myself with all the players.

“I think this all falls under the umbrella of discipline. It’s on-ice discipline – not overstaying-your-shift discipline – it’s off-ice discipline, it’s night before a game taking better care of ourselves. That’s a natural maturation process that a lot of our younger players are still going through. We’ve addressed that. So am I concerned about it? We’ll see how it goes this year. All our players have been talked to about it. Is it an issue? The fact that we’ve talked about it, I guess it is an issue.”

So now it’s nutrition and rest issues, not hangovers and Ho’s.

Where does the Center City Entourage go for their night life? Friendly’s?
